Goods tracking with BLE beacons.
Scenarios
Goods transport has surged in recent years partly because of the conveniences of online shopping and availability of more types of goods. Logistics businesses require not only tracking and managing vehicle fleets but also the goods being delivered – parcels, packets, pallets, boxes, livestock, food, pharmaceuticals, etc. Accountability is important to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction especially with increasing expectations.
Process monitoring has also advanced, with the introduction of Bluetooth proximity detection. IoTplot achieves proximity detection by integrating wireless beacons and advanced GPS terminals. Both wire-in and OBD IoTplot terminals support this functionality, which means that a small sensor attached to say, a palet, can be detected by a terminal and ‘checked in’ or shown on the map. You may be familiar with similar RFID type scenarios with shorter distance/range and higher costs to install. These setups also typically don’t have live GPS tracking capabilities.
The
- Log in and connect the IoTplot terminal and name the associated unit within your portal (Monitoring tab)
- Fasten the BLE sensors to your goods container: boxes/crates/pallets
- Send us the following details:
- the MAC Address of the sensor (on the underside of the sensor)
- any units that typically transport these carriers
- the email recipients of the Goods Separation report (logs when and where the goods were dropped off. This feature is currently under development)
- Track the location of your goods (Trailer tab)
